Grinstead Drive Road Diet on track | Transportation
LOUISVILLE, KY - Construction crews have been working this week on signage, traffic signals and drainage structures in preparation for the Grinstead Drive “road diet.” The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) reminds motorists that Grinstead Drive (KY 2860) will be closed this weekend to go on a three-day crash diet. The roadway will be restriped from four lanes to three lanes between Cherokee Road and Cherokee Parkway.
KYTC announced last week that Grinstead Drive would be reduced from four travel lanes to two thru lanes, a continuous middle turning lane and one parking lane. The section between Willow Avenue and Cherokee Parkway will be striped with two 10-foot thru lanes, an 11-foot two-way left turn lane and two 4.5-foot bike lanes. Between Willow Avenue and Cherokee Road, the bike lanes will be combined to create a parking lane and cyclists will share the road with motorists. The current roadway configuration is a four-lane undivided with 10-foot wide lanes.
Grinstead Drive is scheduled for closure between Cherokee Road and Cherokee Parkway (mile points 0.09 and 0.94) from 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26 and 5:00 a.m. on Monday, July 29. During the road closure, contract crews will mill off the old pavement, resurface the roadway with high friction asphalt and restripe the roadway.
Local access will be allowed for residents on the northbound direction only of Grinstead Drive during this closure. All through traffic must follow the signed detour via Cherokee Road and Cherokee Parkway.
Flynn Brothers Contracting was awarded the contract for this project in the amount of $232,532. The project is being federally funded through the Highway Safety Improvement Program. The contract completion date is November 15, 2013.
The starting date and duration of work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
