Improvements to Begin on US 31E at Interstate 265 | Transportation
From Andrea Clifford
LOUISVILLE, KY - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 5 Office advises motorists to be aware of impending construction US 31E (Bardstown Road) at Interstate 265 (Gene Snyder Freeway). Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 1 to improve traffic flow along US 31E on the south side of this interchange.
A third lane will be constructed on northbound US 31E between Brentlinger Lane and the I-265 interchange. This lane will allow free flow movements for motorists accessing I-265 by having them bypass the traffic signal with the eastbound exit ramp. A barrier wall will separate this lane of traffic from the two through lanes on northbound US 31E.
Similar improvements were made to the north side of the I-265/US 31E interchange in 2011.
On average, 36,000 vehicles travel this section of US 31E each day.
Gohmann Asphalt and Construction was awarded the contract for this project in the amount of $1.9 million. The work is scheduled for completion by November 15, 2013.
US 31E may be reduced to one lane in each direction weeknights Monday – Thursday from 8:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. the following morning. On weekends, lane closures are possible from 8:00 p.m. on Friday until 5:00 a.m. on Monday. Lane closures will not be allowed on holidays. The speed limit will be reduced in the work zone.
