LOUISVILLE, KY - The first training run for runners participating in the Norton Sports Health Training Program is this Saturday at 7:30 a.m. at Swags Sports Shoes location on Third Street. Runners in novice, intermediate and advanced levels will run five, six and eight miles, respectively. Nutrition and water will be provided for runners at this first training run by Walmart and Louisville Water company.  The free 14-week training program is intended to benefit runners training for the Derby Festival Marathon and miniMarathon presented by Walmart and HumanaVitality on April 27. Weekly training runs will be held every Saturday until race day.

The 40th annual 13.1-mile miniMarathon and 12th annual 26.2-mile Marathon start simultaneously at 7:30 a.m. in downtown Louisville on April 27. The races will once again feature a start on Main Street in downtown Louisville and a finish near the Waterfront at Preston and Witherspoon streets. Registration for the 2013 races is open online at www.derbyfestivalmarathon.com. Current registration fees are $65 for the mini and $80 for the Marathon through Jan. 31.

Norton Sports Health is the Derby Festival’s Medical Provider and Training Partner for the mini and marathon. Contributing sponsors of the Training Program are Swags Sport Shoes and 102.3 The Max.
