LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The cool sounds of jug band music filled the air at the Waterfront Saturday.
The eighth annual National Jug Band Jubilee was in full swing at the Brown Forman Amphitheater in Waterfront Park.
The festival celebrated a pre-jazz style music. A jug band is made up of a mix of traditional and home-made instruments. It was made popular in the early 1900s by Louisville musicians like Clifford Hayes, Earl McDonald and Sarah Martin.
"Louisville is the home of jug band music," said Bryon Koch, manager. "It was invented here and thanks to the Browns, a hundred years ago, distributing a substance that is given out in jugs. They have given us the resources to make this kinda thing happen."
The festival draws musicians from all over the country.
The Oldham County History Center also shared a few items from its Bottoms Up JC Barnett Whiskey Jug exhibit.
