LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Free hearing screenings will be offered at this year's Kentucky State Fair.
The screenings in the Health Horizons area of the South Wing exhibit hall are being offered by the Kentucky Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (KCDHH) and Heuser Hearing Institute.
American Sign Language interpreters will be on hand to help answer questions and distribute literature. Information and demonstrations of communication technologies are scheduled. KCDHH will take applications for requests for equipment to assist with hearing on the telephone, a free service to Kentuckians.
Licensed audiologists will be on site to conduct screenings. They will also use a video otoscope to give fairgoers a live view of the ear's interior.
More than 28 million Americans suffer from some degree of hearing loss and Kentucky ranks third per capita nationally with 650,000 people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
The Kentucky State Fair runs August 16 through 26. For more information about the fair, visit www.kystatefair.org. For information about KCDHH, visit www.kcdhh.org.
