Councilwoman Welch announces new Fairdale Satellite Office to better serve residents of District 13 | News

LOUISVILLE, KY – Residents of District 13 will have another opportunity to stay in touch with Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch beginning in January when she opens a new satellite office at the Fairdale Playtorium.
“This office will allow closer contact to constituents and easy accessibility to problem areas in the district,” says Welch. “I plan to have this office open on Mondays and Fridays 12 to 5pm. Come out and see us there!”
The Councilwoman will host a grand opening for the new office on January 28th from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. There will be Metro agencies available for information and light refreshments at this event.
Since the opening of the new Fairdale Library in March 2012, the old library space has been vacant in the Playtorium and the building closed at 1pm every day. Welch has a goal to utilize the building for better community outreach with Metro Government and other service agencies
“I am very happy to provide the use of this building for the community,” says Welch. “I also plan to have afternoon programs such as Animal Adoptions from Metro Animal Services and Crime Prevention Tips from LMPD. Any other suggestions of programs of interest would be greatly appreciated from the community.”
The goal is to use the Playtorium two afternoons each week for District 13 office space. And, as a result of citizen requests, the Playtorium will be open for exercise in walking the gym area, playing corn hole, having card games, quilting clubs or whatever the need.
The Louisville Metro Nutrition Center is still housed in the Playtorium operating daily 9:00am to 1:00pm for Senior Citizen Lunches. For reservations call Laura at 361-7730
The Fairdale Community Ministries is open three days each week Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 9:00am until the last appointment which is usually around noon. Director is Gina Winbun at 367-9519.
The Fairdale Satellite office is just one of several ways Councilwoman Welch stays in touch with residents of District 13 and the people of South and Southwest Louisville. She and three other Councilmembers maintain the Southwest Regional office in the Southwest Government Center, 7219 Dixie Highway. Several times a year, she hosts “Coffee with your Councilwoman” on Saturday mornings as an informal way to come out and talk issues and concerns.
She also maintains a weekly Enewsletter called “The Grapevine” to highlight issues and happenings in the district. The office sends out information from Louisville Metro Police about criminal activity in the area. The Councilwoman maintains a Facebook page with additional information about Metro Council and community issues.
