Charities work together so children have something to eat | Events
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The Ronald McDonald House charity is working to prevent local kids from going hungry.
The charity gave a $10,000 grant to Blessings in a Backpack. The grant, funded in part by local McDonald’s owner-operators, is helping to fill 190 backpacks with nutritious foods to help feed students when they are not at school.
“These bags of food really do make the difference for a child to be able to get through the weekend in a good way,” said Brook Wiseman, Blessings in a Backpack CEO. “They bring the bags back again on Monday and the whole program starts over again on Friday.”
The backpacks will be given out to students at Engelhard Elementary. Roughly 92 percent of Engelhard students are on the free lunch program.
