DOWNTOWN LOUISVILLE (WAVE) - Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction, and since you don't expect wild animals in the middle of the city you might not believe this one if there weren't pictures to prove it.

On Thursday Griffin Torrance, who works for the Jefferson County Clerk's Office, was walking outside the old Louisville City Hall at Sixth and Jefferson, when out of nowhere a wild turkey appeared.

"It came barreling out of the sky and smashes into a window," said Torrance.

The turkey broke its neck, fell to the ground and died.

LMPD officers witnessed what happened. They picked up the bird, and will probably be telling the story for years.

Although most domesticated turkeys cannot fly, wild turkeys are able to take flight, which is obviously not a good idea in an urban setting like downtown Louisville.
