LOUISVILLE, KY – The YMCA of Greater Louisville is opening a new branch near Norton Commons in eastern Jefferson County. The newly constructed 45,000 square foot building, located at 11000 Brownsboro Road, sits on 12.5 acres of land, and will officially open to the public on Sunday, January 20. The facility will be open to charter members on Friday, January 18 and Saturday, January 19.
The facility, built by Wehr Construction, was started in October of 2011. Members will enjoy amenities available at many other area Ys, including an double-wide indoor track, whirlpool spa and sauna, a lap pool and a family pool with a giant water slide.
The 8,000 square foot fitness center will feature state-of-the-art exercise equipment, including ellipticals, treadmills and weights. Teens and adults can utilize the fitness center, and also learn from qualified trainers and coaches.
As with all Ys, a number of fitness classes will be available, including group cycling, among many others. Swim lessons will also be available, and the Y provides a Kid’s Club for supervised activities while parents work out and use the amenities.
“The Y at Norton Commons is an expansion of our offerings and of our mission,” said Steve Tarver, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Louisville. “We look forward to promoting our values of healthy living, youth development and social responsibility through the many great opportunities at the Y at Norton Commons.”
Mike Bramer will serve as the executive director at the new facility. As a YMCA employee since 1990, Bramer initially served as a Youth Sports Program Director, and most recently as Director of Healthy Actions, promoting a series of community-wide healthy eating and physical activity-based initiatives.
“This is an exciting opportunity to continue building a stronger community,” said Bramer. “I think members and our neighbors will be excited when they see the newest Y branch.”
